Exploring the Start of Sag Season: Sun/Mars Square Saturn, Full Moon in Gemini & Venus Opposing Chiron

When I woke up on Wednesday morning, my whole body felt off. My emotions were intense, I had an anxious pressure throughout my torso, my clumsiness (and subsequent temper) was unusually prominent, and everything felt overwhelming.

My partner then had his transport to work cancelled and accidentally left his card at home, I had an overwhelming last minute deadline dropped on me at work (which thankfully happens very rarely) and ended up having a minor stressful chat with my boss.

In my free time that day, I had planned to study Mercury, with it being Mercury day.

I knew I was working with the waxing gibbous moon and I also knew and was comfortable with the planetary energies of the day before, but I hadn’t looked up any transits for the week ahead — which ended up being my biggest learning curve so far.

I got to work studying the day’s chart. What had changed?

Ah. Not only had the Sun moved from the water energies of Scorpio into the fire energies of Sagittarius, but it had also formed a square with Saturn. On top of this, the moon had moved out of my own dreamy Sun sign, Pisces, and into the fiery creator sign of Aries.

So, I spent that evening exploring, and got to grips with why that affected me so drastically. While I felt a sure pang of disappointment clicking the chart forward day by day throughout the rest of the week to see that the square was sticking around, I knew it was a huge chance for my knowledge to deepen and lessons to be shown to me.

So I’ve been looking ahead to this weekend’s energies (Friday 24th—Sunday 26th November) — and it has all made so much sense.

Here are my intuitive thoughts after my last couple of days of studies…

Midweek & weekend energies 22-26th November 2023

Sun moves into Sagittarius — Wednesday 22.11.23

So, this was the start of all the movement this week. It’s Sag season, baby!

We’ve looked at what my day was like on Wednesday when the Sun moved into Sagittarius, but why does all of that relate so hard to this movement in the cosmos?

Well, a simple breakdown:

The Sun is our general personality, our ideals, who we are.

Last month, the Sun was moving through the intense, alluring water sign of Scorpio. This means we might have been working with our shadows, our sexuality and more philosophical and mystical aspects of our personality.

As the Sun moved into Sagittarius in the early hours of Wednesday—UK time—we moved out of this energy into the optimistic, adventure-driven Sagittarius. For many people, this might be a welcome delight. It all depends on where Sagittarius sits in your chart.

For me, with a heavily water-driven and airy chart, and a top three in Pisces, Aquarius and Scorpio, the change felt prominent. My energy naturally worked in Scorpio season—albeit a deep and shadow-work-filled month—and this more foreign fire energy was definitely going to take some getting used to.

Little did I know it was that bright and optimistic Sagittarius energy that was going to get me through the Sun-Mars-Saturn square that was building.

(On that note, happy Sag season to any wonderfully optimistic and adventurous Sagitarrians! Fun fact: my step-daughter-to-be is a December Sag coming up to 4 years old, and she is a wildly hilarious, curious, beautifully bold and loud little angel that adores being right. So that’s my first real introduction to Sag energy at its finest!)

Sun & Saturn Square — Wednesday 22.11.23

As the Sun moved into Sagittarius, that moved it into a square aspect with Saturn—which is moving through Pisces until sometime in May 2025 I believe. (I’m going to have to save that for a whole post because I am LIVING for that energy and have so much to say!)

So, what does this Sun/Saturn square mean?

As we covered, the Sun is who we are, our general ideals and personality.

Saturn is the planet of rules and responsibilities—of external authority. The father figure. The teacher. The planet of convention and tradition.

The square aspect means friction between these two areas.

So think external roadblocks or obstacles, potential feelings of friction with authority figures, inconveniences at work, or maybe even with parents or children.

That’s not a forecast, as such, it’s just energies that might come up that give us opportunities to lean into when they do. To be prepared for.

If possible, try to look back to the 10th/11th of November, and the themes that were present around that time. This was when Mercury (the planet of communication) made the same journey from Scorpio into Sagittarius, forming the start of this square aspect with Saturn and introducing us to this chaotic energy—maybe even with a bit more intensity.

So around that time, what themes were present? What roadblocks presented themselves to you that week? How did you handle them? Is there anything you can learn from that week’s events to help you navigate this transit?

Mars moves into Sagittarius and joins Sun in Saturn square — Friday 24.11.23

So we’ve got the Saturn/Sun square energy going on, and then on Friday, Mars joins the Sun in Sagittarius, putting it also into the square aspect with Saturn.

To break this one down: Mars is the planet of our will, our fire and drive, our motivation, our passion. In square with Saturn, the planet of external rules, authority and tradition, this can naturally create a little bit of tension.

Where the Sun-Saturn square may see your general energy and needs battling external authorities, the Mars-Saturn square might bring a bit of extra fire—or action—to these circumstances. You might be drawn towards power battles over maintaining peace, it might be easier to lose your temper, and you might feel like acting on any impulsive thinking related to these external inconveniences.

Mars in Sagittarius brings about a drive to adventure and freedom, and Saturn squaring this might mean roadblocks to adventures and travel plans, potentially conflicting with our free-spirited Sagittarius Sun energy. Try to work with this—and don’t get too lost in the small stuff. Inconveniences will pass, and so will this aspect.

It’s not all bad, though. I promise! There are so many energies to work with that can guide us through this season and help us maintain balance.

How can we use Sagittarius energy to anchor us through this aspect?

Now for the juicy bit.

My initial aversion to the Sagittarius energy dissipated as I looked deeper into this square aspect— I realised it was the only way to get through this chaotic energy.

Find the silver lining. Throughout any friction or inconvenience, don’t give up — hold your vision, but feel free to slow it down. Be careful not to be too overly-optimistic with your energy for the weekend, as this can be a shadow side of Sag energy.

If this energetic optimism throughout life’s challenges comes naturally to you, lean into it and ride the waves! If, like me, it doesn’t, there’s definitely still a bright side.

The bright side?

As the Sun moves through the sign of Sagittarius, so day-by-day over the next month, we will get more comfortable and developed in that energy. Like a toddler making their first steps, it will build from that unknown first day (and first degree) into an energy we can work with and tap into when we need it.

That is if we work with it and learn the lessons it is highlighting for us to work on…

Chiron Opposing Venus

Chiron opposing Venus might be hitting some people hard, and it can definitely be one of the more shadow-filled aspects of the cosmos. But shadow work always leads to greater illumination.

When Venus, the planet of love and relationships, opposes Chiron, the planet of the wounder healer or our deepest core wounds that require healing, it can bring up some of our deeper interpersonal wounds for healing.

As I learnt in my time studying DBT mindfulness skills, interpersonal relationships are often one of the biggest stressors in our lives, so Chiron in a hard aspect to this can be a little uncomfortable and might bring an urge to hide.

Additionally, with Venus in Libra, we might be pulled towards maintaining the peace in our relationships, even to our own detriment. So take time to assess what path feels right for you here, and possibly consider integrating your shadow in a way that moves you closer to peace and harmony, instead of giving in to that pull to avoid it.

One thing to remember here is that this is only a temporary aspect. These energies won’t last forever. But neither will the unique energetic support and deeper lessons they bring. We’ll move into lighter and energetically easier seasons, but if we haven’t used this season to integrate the shadows it’s illuminating then we risk a little more chaos in our lighter seasons. Either way, trust the outcome.

So, now is a great time to work on your interpersonal shadow, the things you’re ashamed of, and how you can better integrate them to enhance and support your relationships. Maybe it’s time to finally stop hiding parts of yourself.

Yes, that could mean potential tower moments. But that’s when we get to rebuild. Hold your vision and have faith while you do this deeper work.

Waxing Gibbous Moon in Aries/Taurus — 22-24th, 24th-26th

The moon is probably one of the better understood entities of the cosmos. But for any newbies, the moon is the planet of our emotions and how we deal with them, our intuition, and how we feel about the world.

The waxing gibbous moon is the phase in-between the first quarter (half-moon) and the full moon, where energy is gaining momentum at its fastest throughout the month.

Cortisol (stress) levels might be high, sleep might be disrupted, but projects and intentions might also be gaining momentum and finally coming into fruition. (Hello 2000 word astrology essay Friday nights!)

It can feel a bit like a roller-coaster at this time in the moon cycle, and I would give the same advice: hold on tight. (And hold your vision!)

This is a great time to slow down, take a pause and surrender. We’re working with our Third Eye and Throat here. Utilise and enforce your boundaries to create a sacred space for you to pause. Know that everything comes in seasons and this energy won’t last forever.

Prepare to celebrate your successes—or to make room for fresh starts after the full moon.

Moon in Aries (22nd-24th November)

Like I mentioned earlier, the moon moving from dreamy, ethereal and mutable Pisces into the fiery and edgy cardinal Aries is a noticeable one.

The Moon in Aries (22nd-24th November) brings fire to our emotions, and its cardinal nature might mean we can push a little too hard or be a bit too in our fight zone.

It might bring energies that lead to us overdoing it, burning ourselves out, or even burning potential relationships out if we really lose our temper. This is where that optimistic Sun in Sagittarius energy can come back again to be our guiding light throughout these first few days.

Try to see the bigger—and brighter—picture for these two days. Again, try not to sweat the small stuff, and keep some grounding practices close to hand if you’re prone to emotional overwhelm like I am!

Luckily, as I’m writing these words, the moon is moving into Taurus, which means by the time I hit publish we will all hopefully be finding easier to be a bit more grounded in our emotions.

Moon in Taurus (24th-26th November)

Friday night (UK time) the moon will move into Taurus, its last stop before the full Moon in Gemini on Monday. And I absolutely love that we have an Earth moon this weekend while fire energies are so high.

The Moon in Taurus (24th-26th November) hopefully brings a more habitual, grounded and connected sense of peace to our worlds for the weekend ahead of the full moon.

It could potentially bring some energies of over attachment to the material world—namely our belongings and our relationships—but, if we keep this balanced, there is potential to find a sense of calm before the storm of the full illumination.

Remember, even when our material world feels lacking, we’re always divinely abundant in spirit, in the same way that we are divinely connected. Trust in and surrender to the Universe: the mantra of the waxing gibbous moon phase. Trust that the time will come, a little more work (or a couple more moon cycles) may just be needed.

For the rest of the weekend, the moon will be moving from around 90-99% illuminated, building up to the full moon in Gemini on Monday.

Upcoming Full Moon in Gemini — Monday 27th November

Finally, the full moon in Gemini. The full moon in Gemini occurs just before 1 am on Monday 27th November in UK time—in other words, late Sunday night.

The full moon is when everything is in its fullness: intentions, successes, potential challenges, energy levels, magic.

It’s the culmination of whatever you’ve been working on or through in the last two weeks since the new moon in Scorpio. It’s a great time to celebrate the successes and lessons of the last 14 days, and to take chances or make big moves.

Think romance and desire. Celebration and personal breakthroughs. Stepping into your light. From here, you will get to move into the monthly chapters of resting, releasing and renewing. Enjoy this high energy while it’s here.

Full moon in Gemini energy

The full moon in air sign Gemini brings our curiosity, imagination, intellect—and potentially restless tendencies—into full light, meaning these areas will have the most energy behind them.

So, it could be a great time for creative projects and getting lost in your creative practice—time permitting. This could bring about a bit of tension if you’re pulled towards your projects but have responsibilities and roadblocks to that.

It could feel a bit heated, but try to make the most of the time you do have. (A small full moon ritual is better than none, right? Maybe just 5 minutes of free-writing…)

This could also affect you in the way that it affects me and my ever-restless brain. My sleep has been terrible all week.

I have been sleepy as heck, but as soon as I have settled down to sleep (even with my headphone frequencies and affirmations) I have had restless legs, restless thoughts, and have literally had to move down to the sofa just to stretch and finally drift off.

This also led to at least one alarm mishap throughout the week, which just fit like a glove with the Saturn square energy we’ve been hit with. It’s really just been one of those weeks—and I say that with the most lighthearted intention behind it.

This too shall pass. Alas, I persist.

I’m not quite at the point in my journey yet to provide readings for all signs and how they might experience this energy, but let me know if you’d be interested in this, and I hope this insight has been helpful for the general energies going on this weekend!

Please feel free to share this work—or simply let me know if any of it resonates with you. I’d love to connect. And I wish you all a beautiful full moon!
